I have tried before to cook homemade pita chips and failed- I did not cook them long enough I believe and they never got crisp. But, I thought I would give it one more go. This time, I did it with whole wheat flour tortillas. So, I was killing two birds with one stone: whole wheat tortilla chips and not letting those tortillas go to waste in my pantry.
This is what I did this time. I preheated the oven to 350 F and cut the tortillas with a pizza cutter into triangles and then placed then on a- you guessed it- tin foil lined cookie sheet. I sprayed them with Pam and lightly sprinkled them with salt and garlic powder. Once the oven was preheated, I put the tortillas in the oven for 10 minutes, took them out, flipped them and cooked them for 15 minutes more.
And when they came out of the oven, I thought I had failed again because they were not crispy. So, I resigned myself to not being talented enough to make tort chips and thought I would throw them away when they cooled. I left them sitting on the stove. Maybe 20 minutes later Bub announced from the kitchen that they were good. After sitting for a while and cooling, they turned crispy!
Try them out- they are tasty (and whole wheat) tortilla chips.
